Stationen u.a.: Schottischer Schriftsteller. Erkrankt als Kind an Kinderlähmung. Jura-Studium an der Universität Edinburgh. Arbeitet als Anwalt. Heiratet 1797 Charlotte Carpenter. Ab 1801 Mitglied der Freimaurerloge "St. David Lodge No. 36". Schubert vertont 1810 Texte von Scott. Scott wird in Dryburgh Abbey beerdigt.
